Guided Float Trips & Lodging


The Lower Deschutes River near Maupin, Oregon offers the complete package to the discerning angler.  You will find world class fly fishing for rainbow trout and steelhead, dramatic high desert scenery, and plenty of nearby non-angling activites, all within fifteen minutes of our lodging in Maupin.  Our guided float trips will help you spend more time effectively fishing.

Trout Trips

(March - October)  Our guided trout fishing trips typically begin in front of your lodging at 9:00 am.  Shortly after we'll be launching the boat and stringing up your rods.  Both dry fly and nymph fishing are productive on the Deschutes.  Dry fly action picks up most spring and summer days around 10:00 am.  Fishing is generally productve during most of the day.  We will break for lunch in the shade early afternoon, and continue fishing until evening.  We are off the river most days by 6:30 pm, allowing time to change before dinner.

Steelhead Trips

(July - December)  Steelhead trips begin just before daylight.  You'll suit up in your waders and meet your guide in front of your lodging early in the morning.  Fly fishing for steelhead is best during the low light periods of early morning and late evening.  You will have the opportunity to fish long and hard before breaking for a streamside lunch.  On our steelhead trips we are on the river up to 16 hours.  Taking a mid day rest in the shade after lunch is recommended, but not required!  Sink tips will produce during the heat of the day.  You will arrive back at your lodging in time for a late dinner.  While traditional "one handers" are welcome and effective, COGS guides cater to spey casting and fishing for steelhead.  Instruction at any skill level is available.

Our lodging is located downtown Maupin, Oregon, within the Deschutes River Canyon. Only minutes from thirteen boat launches, our lodging also provides access to 35 miles of road access on the Deschutes. With comfortable furnishings and a cozy fly fishing atmosphere, you will not find a better value in the area.
